ab(synth) Laws of Progression is a project created by lionel cohen and Christine Matovich. The music is chameleon in the fused styles of Opera, Middle Eastern, Industrial, Techno, Goth, Glam and Classical. Laws of Progression is an idyllic example of how music breaks down all barriers from all cultures and musical styles.

lionel

"I first met lionel after a show a few years ago in Toronto. At the time he had a band called The PLastic FanTastics, an electronica/glam/punk project. …as soon as he hit the stage, I realized it (glam/punk) had never been done his way. The audience was completely enthralled with his presence and energy, and there wasn’t a dull moment musically or theatrically."
-Tim Resnik, Datatrash Productions, Toronto

lionel’s professional career is as solid and varied as his creativity. He is the 21st century Renaissance man. Whether as a consummate performer with bands as Sassy Scarlet (Glam/Punk), Bill@War (Pop/Techno), The Plastic FanTastics (Electronica/Glam Punk), The Liquid Leather Lizards (Cabaret/Lounge) or as an ambient and film music producer, photographer, painter or graphic designer; lionel never ceases to fearlessly create, perform and produce art in its desired form.

lionel has a repertoire of close to 400 songs. He is a gifted self-sufficient artist and musician following in the footsteps of David Bowie, Lenny Kravitz and Beck. His talent, intelligence, dark exotic looks and drive keep him in full demand from bands, musicians, and DJs. He is a chosen medium for art and music.

Christine Matovich

"Christine Matovich sounds like a powerful voice of the past pushing all others aside in the present and stealing away the future from under their nose."
-Rob Roth, Producer Click & Drag, NYC

"Her technical skill as an opera singer is matched by theatricality, showmanship, and a great professionalism. One would have to call her extremely unique style, "Industrial Opera" but it also touches on fetish, gothic and vampyre themes in a most delightful and modern way…for New Year’s Eve she was the show that everyone talked about as the best of their millennial experience."
-Chi Chi Valenti, Founder/Producer The Jackie Factory and Mother, NYC

"After seeing a performance of Christine Matovich, I was so mesmerized by her sex appeal and talent, that I took her stage persona, the Dominatrix Diva, and made her the dominant character in my novel Symphony X." (Virgin Books December 2000)
-Jasmine Stone, Erotica Writer

Christine performs throughout the US and Europe in operas, shows and recitals with known venues as the New York Philharmonic, the American Symphony Orchestra, Rome Opera Festival, Polish Opera Theater, Napa Valley Zarzuela Festival, San Francisco Performances, St. Helena Chamber Orchestra, and Bay Shore Lyric Opera to name a few. Throughout her classical career (and similar to lionel a linguist speaking French, Italian, English, some German and Spanish) she has always taken an interest in alternative music and fashion. It was through the influences of lead bassist of the heavy metal band Manowar, that Christine began to work fusing opera and alternative music. She started with Nox Aeterna, an industrial/goth/rock-opera baroque-fetish vampire band re-orchestrating arias with new rhythms and industrial instruments, to recording with the band The Bards in London (heavy metal/opera/renaissance), to finding the perfect fit, fusion and co-creativity with lionel for ab(synth).
