Avtar Singh -Writer

Avtar Singh is the author of The Beauty of These Present Things , a novel published by Penguin India in the summer of 2000. He served as the Assistant Editor of Man's World , India's largest general interest men's magazine, from February 2000 to March 2003. While there, aside from commissioning new writing, he wrote a wide range of features, including personal essays--a return to his ancestral home in Punjab, amongst other things; travel stories--Vietnam, Portugal, Indonesia, Arunachal Pradesh, and others; profiles--Mark Mascarenhas, Padma Lakshmi to name a few; as well as investigative journalism-- such as The Samba Spy Case. In addition, he is a regular contributor to Outlook Traveller , India's best known travel magazine.

His writings have appeared in The Hindustan Times and Cosmopolitan, India, and in Transition magazine, US. He was a regular contributor of short stories to Tehelka.com's literary erotica section. A short story by him, Infected , was collected in Civil Lines 5 , a book length anthology of new writing from India.

His first screenplay is in production with an Indian director and an international cast and crew.

He is currently working on a new novel based in Punjab, New Delhi, and Mumbai.

He is thirty-one, was educated in India and the United States, and lives and works in Goa.
